The event brought together over 100 participants at Nazarbayev University, including representatives of youth initiatives from all regions of Kazakhstan, international partners, experts, as well as representatives of government bodies and civil society. The conference was held in a hybrid format, combining offline and online participation, and became a key platform for sharing experiences and shaping the youth agenda on climate change.
Over the course of two days, young activists discussed the most pressing challenges related to climate change and took part in lectures, panel discussions, and practical sessions. One of the central topics focused on international climate policy and the role of youth ahead of COP-30, where experts from Kazakhstan and abroad discussed global trends and the need for active youth participation in decision-making. A dedicated session featured an intergenerational dialogue between youth representatives and government officials, addressing opportunities for collaboration in tackling climate-related issues.
Special attention was given to environmental and climate activism, exploring how grassroots initiatives contribute to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and empower young leaders in advancing sustainable development. During the WEF-NEXUS discussion, experts examined food, water, and energy security in the context of climate change and assessed the impact of emerging environmental challenges on Kazakhstan’s socio-economic stability.
The second day of the conference featured hands-on workshops on developing climate projects and designing logical frameworks, where participants learned how to turn their ideas into actionable solutions. Sessions also covered policy brief writing, methodologies for assessing Kazakhstan’s vulnerability to climate change, adaptation pathways, and the importance of regional and international coordination in ecological initiatives.
One of the key highlights of LCOY Qazaqstan 2025 was the development of the National Youth Statement of the Republic of Kazakhstan for COP-30, which reflects the demands and proposals of young activists regarding climate policy. The document was finalized and signed by participants on the final day of the conference. Additionally, the event hosted the Tereshkevich Award 2025 ceremony — a regional award recognizing young eco-activists of Central Asia for their significant contributions to environmental protection.
LCOY Qazaqstan 2025 was organized by the Office of Sustainable Development at Nazarbayev University, Climate for Us, Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth Kazakhstan, and NARXOZ University, with the support of partners including UNICEF Kazakhstan, UNESCO Almaty, UNDP, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Kazakhstan Office, Ecoforum Kazakhstan, and the Central Asian Climate Network.
