With Professor Michael Lewis from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences moderating the session, the university president responded to audience questions, sharing key insights into NU’s strategy for research, faculty development, and rankings.
President Waqar emphasized that research-led teaching remains a top priority, noting that an impressive 25% of NU undergraduates publish research—a rare achievement even among the world’s leading universities. NU partnered with Advance HE, a UK-based faculty development organization, to enhance teaching quality further. Additionally, the university is undergoing multiple accreditation processes to ensure international recognition for its business, engineering, and medical programs. Dr Waqar says that NU aims to enter the top 300 in the Times Higher Education rankings within five years.
Addressing NU’s role in fostering talent, Dr. Waqar highlighted the university’s success in attracting top-tier faculty and students. He also pointed to NU’s commitment to gender inclusion in STEM, with 50% of its STEM students being women, an achievement that sets a global example. With a record number of applications and a 98–99% graduate employment rate, NU is solidifying its status as a premier academic hub in the region.
