Share this articleThe 2024 Student Sports League, which took place from October 28 to November 3, united over 700 talented student-athletes from universities across Kazakhstan to foster a spirit of healthy competition.
For the first time, the Student Sports League is organized as a single tournament for all universities, with NU being the host.
Beibit Askaruly, Director of the NU Department of Student Affairs, said that “these competitions highlight the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and university pride while also providing an opportunity to welcome athletes from various regions and promote a healthy lifestyle among students.”
The League’s first stage took place in May, where teams competed in eight sports: table tennis, Kazakh Kuresi, chess, togyzkumalak, basketball, swimming, kickboxing, and taekwondo. This time, men’s and women’s teams compete in volleyball and futsal matches.
The opening ceremony featured speeches from NU President Waqar Ahmad, who highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting students in both athletic and academic pursuits, and Akerke Abylaikhankyzy, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Higher and Postgraduate Education of the Higher Education Ministry, who emphasized the role of sports in personal development. Mukhtar Yeskaliyev, Vice President of Kazakhstan’s National Student Sports Union, extended his best wishes to all athletes, noting the importance of sports in strengthening national pride and community bonds.
