Share this articleThe main event of the first NU ARC-2024 Scientific and Practical Conference was the final competition of the doctoral students' Three Minute Thesis (3MT).
The university-wide 3MT competition took place for the first time on September 20. 3MT is an academic contest developed at the University of Queensland, Australia, and has since become a globally recognized challenge where PhD students must explain the significance of their research to an audience in just three minutes.
After the final round, first place was awarded to Zhuldyz Yelzhanova, a doctoral student from NU's School of Engineering and Digital Sciences. She also received a prize from the sponsor, ZEISS, for her clear and concise presentation on perovskite solar cells. Second place went to Hafiz Muhammad Waqar Abid, a doctoral student from the NU School of Sciences and Humanities. His project focuses on combating climate change by creating porous materials that can convert CO₂ emissions into valuable products. Meanwhile, the audience awarded their votes to Aida Kabibulatova, a doctoral student at the NU School of Medicine, studying genetic approaches to protect the hearts of diabetic patients.
The results of the poster contest were also announced. The best posters in each category were recognized as follows:
- Health and Wellbeing: L. Mukhangaliyeva, B. Kurbanova, C., Kharmyssov, S. Alisherov, Zh. Ashikbayeva, Zh., Katrenova, A. Sametova, C. Molardi, D.Tosi, and Z.N. Utegulov.
- Socio-economic Transformation: S. Orazgaliyev, S. Xenarios, A. Shaikenova, N. Kapasheva.
- New Materials and Technologies: A. Mukhatov, I. Hayat, Ton Duc Do
- Artificial Intelligence: G. Tolebi and G. Nauryzbayev.
- Energy and Environment: N. Nurlan, M. Nurmyrza, Woojin Lee.
- One People's choice award: Zh. Sapargaliyev, A. Tuyakova, I. Lukmanov, A. Kubasheva
