Share this articleNU Graduate School of Business (NU GSB) is partnering with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Business School.
The prestigious delegation from Hong Kong was welcomed by the Dean of the School Joep Conings and the Vice Dean of Research Venkat Subramanian.
HKUST is ranked as the number one business school in Asia, ranked 3rd among young universities by Times Higher Education and 30th in the world for business, while NU GSB holds the top position in the Eurasia region.
The two sides discussed joint research, student exchanges and dual degree programs. The first meeting of the business schools was held in June 2024, when HKUST and GSB explored research collaboration through the Asian University Alliance (AUA), possible joint conferences and the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) dual degree program.
This time, NU GSB and HKUST signed a student exchange agreement based on their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed this year. Starting this academic year, BBA and MSF students from NU GSB will have the opportunity to study at HKUST BS, while NU GSB will host an equal number of students from the Hong Kong university, thereby facilitating a dynamic, cross-cultural educational experience.
In terms of future collaboration, a dual degree program in 2026 and a study tour under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) were discussed. As leading research-intensive business schools in their regions, NU GSB and HKUST BS see great potential for joint research projects that will advance global business knowledge and practices.
“We are equally excited about this partnership with NU, we believe there is great potential in these emerging markets, especially in Central Asia. We recognize that NU is a very successful university, even though it is younger than our institution. As young universities, we both have the energy, ambition and drive to move forward and make a difference,” said Professor Kai Lung Hui, Acting Dean of HKUST Business School.
NU President Waqar Ahmad emphasized that HKUST’s approach to collaboration goes beyond financial gain and instead focuses on building a mutual partnership between two equal leaders in the field of education. He remarked, “We are very happy to see that HKUST views this as a true partnership rather than a financial profit-making venture.” To which Professor Kai Lung Hui responded, “We see this as an opportunity for our students to gain global experience, especially in the CIS region, which will greatly benefit them in their future careers. This collaboration offers equal opportunities and responsibilities for both institutions, facilitating a balanced and meaningful exchange.”
By joining forces, NU GSB and HKUST BS are strengthening their shared commitment to delivering world-class business education and setting new standards in academic excellence and international collaboration.
